Solo Flutist
Thomas James Wible, 2nd Prize Winner of the 2010
Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, has been recognized for
his accomplishments worldwide. His performances have been praised as,
"full of energy, extremely musical, and with brilliant technique!" As
a soloist he has performed throughout the United States and Eastern Europe,
including appearances at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany; Dvorak Hall in
Prague, Czech Republic; Franz Liszt Hall in Budapest, Hungary; Heinz Hall in
Pittsburgh, PA; and the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall in Miami, FL. Recent
highlights include being a featured guest artist with the Pittsburgh Youth
Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Mozart's Flute Concerto under the baton
of Daniel Meyer during the orchestra's 2008-2009 season. As a winner of the
Boston Conservatory's 2009 Concerto Competition, he performed as a soloist with
the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble at the Berger Center for the Performing
Arts this past February. In April of 2010 Mr. Wible will
give his New York recital debut as a winner of the New York Flute Club's Young
Artist Competition at the Yamaha Piano Salon in Manhattan. He was recently
named one of six finalists in the National Flute Association's Piccolo Artist
Competition and will perform during the National Flute Convention in Anaheim,
CA. In October of 2010 he will perform with flutist Beatriz Macias in the
semi-final round of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
Thomas has received top-prizes and awards from such organizations as the National Flute Association, New York Flute Club, National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, Music Teacher's National Association, Boston Woodwind Society and the Flute Society of Washington. As a sponsored Artist for the Pittsburgh Concert Society and the Tuesday Musical Club, Thomas has appeared in solo recitals throughout the Pittsburgh region. In 2007, he was named recipient of the William H. Grass Memorial Prize at the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition as one of the youngest competitors.
Active as a chamber musician and orchestral player, Thomas has performed under the baton of conductors Hugh Wolff, Keith Lockhart, Ludovic Morlot, Daniel Meyer, David Loebel, and Joseph Silverstein. He has performed at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC and in the summer of 2008 held a Teaching Assistant Fellowship at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC. He is currently Principal Flutist of the Boston-based Freisinger Chamber Orchestra and a substitute flutist with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
Thomas began his formal musical training at the age of seven and was fortunate to study with two of Pittsburgh's most prominent flute teachers, Wendy Webb Kumer and Bernard Z. Goldberg. Upon the commencement of his high school graduation, he was nominated a Presidential Scholar in the Arts by the U.S. Presidential Scholars Committee at the White House. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA where he studied with Renee Krimsier. In the Fall of 2009 he was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to pursue his Master's Degree studies at the Boston Conservatory of Music, Theatre and Dance as a student of Geralyn Coticone.
