Deborah J. Anderson grew up in Tacoma, Washington, where she studied piano for eight years before moving on to voice, and eventually the Arabic ‘oud and English Renaissance lute. At Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), she majored in French and spent her junior year in eastern France before graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1973. Over the years, she has studied seven foreign languages, of which she still speaks four (French, Spanish, Italian and German). Deborah worked in France as a nanny after graduating from college, and later served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia where she taught English. After earning her master’s degree in French from the University of Washington (’79), she taught French on the college level for several years, then “retired” to raise her 4 children in Tacoma. She continues to travel widely throughout the world, and enjoys the great outdoors, history, cooking, the arts, watercolor painting and basic gardening. She was a member of the Pacific Lutheran University Choral Union for 10 years.
Deborah began composing as a child. Her pieces range in setting from solo voice and choir to instrumental ensembles for flute, bassoon, clarinet, harp, English horn, violin, viola, cello and piano in various combinations, as well as solo works for a number of instruments.
