Mezzo-Soprano
Mezzo-soprano, Amy Oraftik, is delighted to rejoin Boston Metro Opera for the 2010/2011 season. This past summer, Oraftik attended the Chautauqua Institute where she performed the role of Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro. This fall, Oraftik will perform the role of the Baroness in a concert version of Vanessa alongside acclaimed soprano, Lauren Flanigan with the Boston University Orchestra. Past engagements with Boston University include the title role in William Bolcom’s Lucrezia, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Dorabella (cover) in Cosi fan Tutte, and Mrs. Ott in Susannah. Oraftik recently sang the role of Meg in the European Premiere of Little Women under the baton of Metropolitan Opera rehearsal conductor, J. David Jackson.
A modern music enthusiast, Ms. Oraftik has had the honor of collaborating with multiple composers on their work, including William Bolcom on Lucrezia, Mark Adamo on Little Women, Carlisle Floyd on Susannah and Benjamin Moore on his songs. Oraftik will work with composer Kareem Roustom in the spring of 2011 as the mezzo-soprano soloist in the world premiere of his new work, Jesus, the Son of Man.
Ms. Oraftik made her professional debut at Chicago’s DuPage Opera as Molly Brazen in The Beggars Opera during the 2008/09 season. That same year, she won first place at the Kristina Townsend Memorial Competition and was awarded a grant from the Fé Bland Foundation to aid in her musical studies. While attending DePaul University in Chicago, Oraftik’s credits included Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Diana Trapes in The Beggars Opera, Good Fairy in Transformations, Dido in L’Egisto, Mopsa/Summer in The Fairy Queen and Clo-Clo in The Merry Widow. Ms. Oraftik is currently pursuing her M.M. at Boston University where she studies under the tutelage of Penelope Bitzas.
